Dinner Time Snorkeling

After four years in HK, I finally found out when to go snorkeling: 5:00 - 6:00 pm. The last time I went at these hours, I called myself lucky for finding the large octopus. This time, things became evident. I saw two moorays, in the same spots I had been so many times before. One even swam around freely, only I was too slow to get a real good shot. Then there were tons of medium size fish, large puffer fish, and one humongous crab. Only taking pictures got more complicated, since it involved a flash. Next project: night snorkeling.

Point-and-shoot from Porquerolles

I finally dropped the underwater point-and-shoot at the photo lab. Turned out, all the pics were horribly underexposed; most of the negatives were entirely blank. Surprisingly, the pictures that I took yesterday in bright sunlight did not turn out, while some from 10 meters depth at Porquerolles from last year showed at least something:

Snorkeling: Lung Ha Wan II

Bank holiday, lunchtime. Peter and I went for a bit of snorkeling in Lung Ha Wan II next to the BBQ pit. Warm, clear water, super conditions. Compared to the overrun bay at Lung Ha Wan I, this bay is full of coral, and large fish. Really nifty. No wetsuit, t -shirt against sun, knife, and instant point and shoot camera, which unfortunately did not produce any usable photos.

Huge Octopus in Lung Ha Wan

Took Peter for a bit of en-of-the-day snorkeling, at 6 p.m. Super viz, warm, calm, - splendid.
Finally, I came across an enormous octopus, by HK standards, hiding under a rock at 2m depth.
First white, it immediately flicked on its dark camouflage pattern.
I gave it my snorkel to play with, and after 1o minutes, its was sufficiently bored and generous enough to return it to me.

Very good fun.
